” you know that back in 1982 in “The Big Apple” Manhattan area of New York – Better Bodies founder Brian Moss along with his revolutionary idea about Better Bodies, created a gym that upheld all of the values of being inclusive and free of judgement regardless of age, color, sex, or creed. A place to call your “home” away from home.

Since my team in the Nordics and I were passed the Better Bodies torch in 1994 we have continued to live by the same values. Seventeen years later in 2011, we established our first USA based office and we regained the opportunity to go back to the original idea of creating a gym of our own as a home base for the Better Bodies brand. The idea was to go back to the original roots as much as possible when it came to creating a serious fitness environment for all fitness needs while creating a global destination. It should act as a playground and innovation hub for Better Bodies and with those ideas our “…destination, Dallas Texas” was born.

Today thousands of people have gathered from all around the world to join in and visit us for great workouts and community. We have a huge diversity in our fitness activities and it’s a space where you can always “B-YOU”.

On November 16th this year we will celebrate the grand opening of our next chapter with Better Bodies but now in a much larger facility. In this new space, we’ll have much more room to grow our community and have next level fitness activities that in the past we'd only dream of.

The next step in removing any remaining boundaries between current ...destination members and Better Bodies community members is to merge these communities into one Facebook group to allow both groups to interact and make new friends – bringing these two communities together into one!

The conclusion is that all of us has both …destination and Better Bodies as a common denominator. We are all ambassadors for fitness and by supporting …destination as a member we are indirectly supporting Better Bodies, as well as the opposite being true.

Please welcome new friends to our WHY and let’s continue to transform the world to a better place through fitness! We are all ambassadors for a healthy lifestyle.

July is almost here and this means vacation time for many of you! For some people vacation means vacation not only from work but also from training. Living the fitness lifestyle, an active lifestyle, is something that gives joy and energy all through the year though and should not be something we're longing to have “vacation from”. If feeling this way, it's probably time to try new ways to exercise - because I am sure everyone can find something that gives them the joy of movement. It's just a matter of finding YOUR thing, whether it’s the gym, CrossFit, dancing, horseback riding, enduro or something else.

Summer and time off from work just gives more opportunities to try new exercises, spend time more outdoor than indoor etc. Dare to try something new and be inclusive! I am sure you have friends and family for whom this lifestyle doesn't come as natural as for you. But by inviting them to join you for some outdoor bootcamp on the back yard or that weekend dance class or open house evening at the gym – now when people in general actually have more time and days are longer and lighter, maybe it will be a door opener to how much more energized and good we feel by being active. And maybe we are entering fall with new friends within the Better Bodies family?

We've always had a blast working around the office and getting things done, but we especially have a good time when we do a photo shoot. So why not share our fun with you? “Shared joy is double joy” (as we say in Sweden)!

My name is Johanna Evertson and I am the athlete coordinator for Better Bodies. I have been working in and around the brand for a total of 6 years. Originally, I was born and raised in Sweden but I came over to the USA 13 years ago and fell in love with the Texas sun and the American life.

Here’s a peek behind the seams at our May photo shoot in downtown Dallas. Our fabulous models BreeAnn, David, Hanna and Josiah were a dream to work with and wore the clothes beautifully in the spring sun.  All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the awesome team we have around the world and I'd like to do a special shout out to our amazing photographer Jennifer Castro who flew in from Florida.

The planning around the shoot involves a good group of people, all from our designers Donna and Jessica who puts the outfits together to Lena who organize, hang and steam them to perfection. Our models usually get hand picked depending on the outfits and the theme of the photo shoot. We try to alternate our models and make sure we give the opportunity to as many of our ambassadors as possible.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my day as much as I enjoyed being there. Nothing feels like work when you're having fun!

Work Hard Play Hard: Johanna Evertson

Weightlifting is my thing… I am a former IFBB Bikini Pro and Olympia Champion, but my ‘’love story’’ with the gym started 21 years ago, when I was only 14.

I was always into sports, and I loved the fit and strong look of the women who went to the gym, so I decided to start hitting the weights.

was that my mom wasn’t very supportive of me going to the gym, and as a broke

teenager, the only ‘’source of income’’ I had was my allowance.

Brazil- where I am from, gym memberships were quite expensive so, I used to

save my allowance for a month and half in order to be able to pay for it.

take the bus to go to the gym, as my mom wouldn’t drive me there either, so I

would spend up to 3 hours in the gym to make my money’s worth!

How do you include fitness in your lifestyle?

Fitness is a HUGE part of my life, and even more so now that I have 2 small children ( a 2 ½ year old and a 1 ½ year old).

quite overwhelming and make you lose your sense of self. Especially with all

the physical and emotional changes it brings.

gym is a daily reminder that the ‘’old me’’ is still there too. It is amazing

to spend that time working hard and doing something for myself, when during the

remainder of the day I focus mostly on my family and my business.

that the endorphins from training make me a much better mom.

My kids, my family, and the girls that I train in my programs.

I can’t talk the talk, if I am not walking the walk. I can’t ask them to take some time for themselves, if I am not doing just that.

I can’t ask them to love their bodies and be confident in their skin, when I am not.

Training has always been a huge part of my life, but when I first moved to the US for good, roughly 15 years ago, I gained a substantial amount of weight.

I don’t remember the exact amount, but I do know I went from a size 2 to a VERY snug size 10 (probably was a 12, if we are being honest).

I was literally ordering burgers every night (not just ANY burger, the whole thing with bacon, extra cheese, mayo, extra fries on the side etc.), thinking that the 30 minutes’ walk on the treadmill was going to even it all out.

Then, one day as I was about to take a bite of my daily burger, a friend looked at me and shouted across the room:

"Do you really think you should be eating that right now? You are literally bursting out of your clothes!" .

I knew he was right, and quite frankly, that right there was what I needed to get it together.

I was extremely unhappy with the way I looked but I was still living in denial and I even asked the sales lady at Abercrombie if they had changed the design of their jeans because they were "quite small now".Eh... "NOT 8 sizes smaller, hun"- I am sure that's what they wanted to say. .

That was it. That was the day I started making small changes to the way I ate.

I was able to lose some weight and get back to a place where I was more comfortable and confident in my body, but a few years in I felt a bit lost and without a purpose or something to keep me moving forward.

That’s when I decided to sign up for a fitness competition… This was back in 2009. Bikini was a new division and I decided to give it a try.

At the time I was working as a bartender so the hours were crazy, and there was a whole lot of drinking involved. Everyone laughed at me when I told them about my plans to compete, and I was determined to prove every single one of them wrong.

I won my first 4 competitions, and qualified for the Olympia the very following year. I had the honor of competing in the first ever Bikini Olympia. In 2012 I took the first-place trophy, and it was quite possibly one of the most amazing experiences of my life (after giving birth to my children).

Even though I am now in a different stage of my life and competing is most definitely not in my plans, I must say that I would NOT be the person I am today if it wasn’t for the experience I had competing.

Competing taught me about discipline, commitment and resilience I NEVER thought I had. Competing made me believe in myself, and it made me see that when you work hard at something, sooner or later what you are working for does come to you.

And finally, all those lessons learned from competing have shaped the resilient, driven, and determined person I am today.

"Glutes are one of the most important aspects of bikini competition. You have to have your training on point to build them. For me that is heavy lifting. I have that mindset and I will go in the gym and commit to lifting heavier and heavier. Put it out there in the universe that you will get stronger, better that you will lift heavier and continually improve."

Narmin Assria understands glutes are built the same as other muscles, with weight bearing exercises and progressive overload i.e. increasingly heavier weights, more volume or shorter rest periods over time. The greater the load the more the muscle will have to adapt in size to accommodate.

After that I have competed over 20 times and also lived and worked at the legendary Destination Dallas.

I have been a part of the team since 2013 and love the brand and what it stands for.

I'm Swedish but live in the sunny Marbella, Spain.
